Defense Principles

Your Self Defense Gun Needs to Start with a .22LR

How many people out there buy too much gun for their first weapon????????

They wonder why they cannot hit anything and a lot of the time give up all together on the fun aspect of owning a firearm….They usually start with a .4o S&W or the likes and go out with a couple of boxes of ammo and are all over the target or the hillside….where’s the confidence being built when you need to protect yourself?….I know it is usually at close range….but can’t we have fun with our self defense gun in the meantime….and hitting what you are aiming at, is usually more fun than shooting all around it.

I think the first pistol people should buy is a .22LR….You will shoot it for a whole lot less money and that means you will shoot it more…..that alone will make you a better shot….it takes a lot of rounds through your pistol to become an effective and accurate shot…in the mean time you will be having alot of fun…..Low recoil and low noise will only increase the fun factor for a beginning shooter.

Once you have mastered the .22, step up to the next level and shoot a .38 or 9mm and then master the recoil and type of trigger that these have….this will save you a bunch of money buying guns that are too big for you and taking the fun out of firearms…….these are meant to be fun…..the more fun you have the more you use them and the more you use them,  the better you become with them and this will save your life someday because you are familiar with your gun and confident in your abilities….this all starts with you shooting a lot ammo and this should start with your .22LR

For sure! I got a .22 as my first two handguns and its been great! I even got my wife, who was afraid of guns to go out with me and shoot and now she loves them! They are great for beginning shooters because they don’t shock or scare them too much. I judt recently got a .22 that is modeled after a 1911 and it shoots great! the brand is Chiappa Firearms and the gun is a Puma 1911-22.

I must say…my wife’s first shooting experience was with a 9mm and it was very difficult for her. She now has a .380, but I think that a .22 would have been the way to go. I now can see how important it is for “first timers” to gain confidence and have a good time learning. Luckily she didn’t hang up the “shoes” so to speak…so we are good now as she steps out of her comfort zone and continues to learn. Great post…great comment Travis…

While i do agree that .22LR’s are great training guns I do not believe that it must be the first gun everyone should buy. Many people are comfortable shooting 9mm and higher caliber handguns
